When I record from vinyl and do "export multiple" Audacity puts the track numbers in to tags and file names just as I like. The problem is when I record the second side of the album it starts over at track 1. Is there any way to set the starting track number so I end up with a continuous ...

So long as you don't go over 0dB, that's correct (and it is deliberately made difficult to amplify above 0 dB)

Try making a recording and then use the Amplify effect - it may just be that you are recording really quietly.

1) you should use Audacity 1.3.12 with Vista
2) You need to enable a recording input in the Windows Control Panel.

The default setting, as I recall is to make the loudest single peak in the performance be 0 -- just before clipping. or just at the point of clipping, depending on which way you look at it. One note of caution is that encoding into a compressed format such as MP3 can output at a slightly higher pea...
