In that case it would seem that there is something a bit peculiar about that MP3.
To confirm that, let's make sure that you are able to import a standards compliant MP3. Download this test tone and see if it will import. It's just a 10 second beep (it's quite loud):

There's a few possibilities of where the problem lies.
Do you get the same error in Audacity if you move the file to your Desktop, and then import it from there?

I rarely use Windows, but can't you use "Alt + Tab" to cycle through all open windows?

Re: Is there a simple list of options one can use with "do_command"?

Re: Pop is created at start of recording intermittently

I can tell you what that looks like - it looks like the microphone switching on.

I'm not sure what you can do about it. Perhaps check that your power settings are set to "always on" for everything (including USB).

Re: Sound activated recording problems

Do you absolutely need VB-Cable? We've had quite a few reports of strange problems like this when VB-Cable is installed (not necessarily being used, just running in the background appears to be enough to cause problems for some).

Re: Project opens with no sound

When you first attempted to open the project, I'm guessing that you got an error message about missing data files. What did you do after that error message?

Many stores will sell you one but not deliver for a long time.
That problem appears to be specific to the US. There's no apparent problem getting Behringer devices in Europe or the UK.

Re: Clicks not showing up on waveform

Clicks can also occur if the audio contains sub-sonic (very low frequency) rumble. That can be fixed by cutting the very low frequencies with the "Filter Curve EQ" effect. If it's a speech recording, there is a preset "Low frequency roll-off for speech". If it's a music recording...

Re: a completed audio book

ACX (who handle audiobook submissions for Amazon) specify that each chapter must be a separate file, no longer than 120 minutes. Full details of their specification can be found here: https://www.acx.com/help/acx-audio-submission-requirements/201456300 You backup copy should be in (lossless) WAV or ...
