Re: Sample? into variable

If you are an advanced C+ programmer, this may be of interest: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Proposal_Audio_Diff If you are looking for something a lot more simple, perhaps you could develop something using Nyquist: http://audacityteam.org/help/nyquist There is a simple Nyquist plug-in for readi...

Re: Recording a skype session

The difficulty in recording Skype is getting both sides of the conversation. Skype automatically sets the recording input to microphone (which is what it requires), but to record both sides of the conversation you need to set the input to "Stereo Mix". The problem is that you can't have bo...

Re: PLEASE help me!!! Clean up a conversation file!!!

So, you are saying that i can't do anything with Audacity to clean this up? (maybe you can recommend me another app?) He's saying that it is limited what you can do in any program. Audacity has most of the tools that are available in other tools, but you are asking how to take the milk out of your ...

Re: Sound Card Reviews

I ran across a Blaster Audigy SE card, but I can't tell if it has a microphone boost. The Quick Start manual is available here: http://support.creative.com/manuals/download.aspx?nDownloadId=9154&prodName=Audigy%20SE%20Users%20Guide%20English (not sure if the link will work as they use dynamic w...

Hi Rob, yes I'm a fiddle player. I presume that you play the "viola" rather than the Chinese or Mediaeval "alto-fiddle"?

Re: Is it possible to remove distortion?

Not exactly what I was saying. True, I was not repeating you but adding another angle along similar lines. Experienced sound engineers will each have their own prefered ways of doing things, but for a novice user it is safest to start with everything turned down. In particular the microphone gain s...

Re: Smoothing out computer generated speech

The voice is basically Festival's "voice_kal_diphone", but I've changed the durations and pauses to slow it down. Truncate silence is not an option. The project needs to generate text-to-speech audio files of algorithmically written bedtime stories. :) That's why I'm slowing the voice dow...

Re: Error message "...check the input device settings&projec

I doubt that there is a positive correlation between the two. Although they may on occasion be related somehow. Both Audacity and Sound Recorder use the Windows sound system. If you would like to know more please start a new post. Message says An Audio Recording device cannot be found.. That helps....

Re: Weird Clipping Issue With Headset-Recording

I suspect that it is not broken, but rather that the position of the microphone relative to your mouth has moved. Because headset microphones are so close to the mouth, even a small movement can make a very big difference. Can you try and position the microphone a little more to the side of your face?

Re: Is it possible to remove distortion?

The solution seems to be in avoidance, not in clearing up existing files. That's the general idea ;) In case you missed it amongst the sudden flurry of posts, the post by billw58 has some very good practical tips. All but the very smallest mixer boards have a "gain" (sometimes called a &q...
