Re: Is it Audacity, Realtek or Dell that is the problem?

The recommended version of Audacity for Windows 7 is Audacity 1.3.12 If you go to the Audacity download page http://audacityteam.org/download/ there is a link that says " best version for Windows 7 " Click on that link and it takes you to a page that gives information specific to using Aud...

Re: Starting Audacity

When I try to start Audacity, my computer says there is already an Audacity running. It doesn't show up in the task manager. I tried deleting Audacity and reinstalling it, but that didn't help. Any suggestions The problem is most likely due to an error in the Audacity Preferences, in which case you...

Re: HowTo wav mono, 8000Hz sample rate, 64 kbs with Audacity

The theoretical maximum frequency that can be represented with a 8 kHz sample rate is < 4 kHz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyquist_frequency The theoretical dynamic range of 16 bit audio is around 96 dB http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16_bit_audio#Dynamic_range There are also other aspects to "so...

Re: audacity 1.2 or beta unicode ??

The process is basically the same as making a Podcast with music. See this tutorial: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Creating_a_simple_voice_and_music_Podcast_with_Audacity The first thing you need to be able to do is to record something with the microphone. Once you have that bit working the rest...

Re: Really basic GUI question

It depends on the zoom level. You can get a 2 tone effect due to a graphic anomaly on the screen as Koz described, but when zoomed out sufficiently I believe that it is actually drawn in two colours to indicate the peak level and the RMS level.

Audacity 1.2 is known to have problems on newer hardware. Have a go with Audacity 1.3.12

Re: Bug in Amplify effect (1.3.5 and 1.3.7)

Is this related to repeating an effect? The Amplify effect is different to Normalize in that it amplifies by a fixed amount. The "target" level is calculated based on the current maximum peak, but if you re-apply the effect, then unlike the Normalize effect, the amplification amount remain...

Re: Amplify vs Normalize parameters

It is typically 2 channel, but has the same signal in both channels. The choice of Amplify vs. Normalize may still be relevant. If, for example, these are recordings from a mono record player, then the left/right channels should be identical. However, depending on the equipment and how it was set u...
