Re: Trouble recording in stereo with external mic.
I set the default to an external microphone (I have a Sony F-V120, 1/8th inch stereo jack, not USB), match these settings in audacity, and the machine records through the internal mic. I set the default to internal in the audio control panel, and audacity records through the external microphone, Th...

Re: Bass effect unwanted
I sound like James Earl Jones Don't fix it - you have a new career ahead of you :D I have tried uninstalling and re installing and can't seem to get rid of the problem. The problem is probably a sound card setting rather than Audacity. Audacity has no ability to apply effects other than when you ma...

Re: How to compute SPL from sound inputed from a microphone.
The other two measurements remove DC before measuring RMS Unless I'm missing something, I don't think that they do. Is maxsamp the correct way to extract a regular number from the snd-avg function? I don't really get why it returns a single audio sample instead of a number. (snd-maxsamp sound ) com...

Some information you missed out - which operating system you are using, For Audacity 1.3.12 on Windows, you need to edit the Preferences file (audacity.cfg) which is in this location: Windows 98/ME: WindowsApplication DataAudacity Windows 2000/XP: Documents and Settings<user name>Application DataAud...

Re: Saving Imported Files after the Fact?
If you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 you will be able to open these projects, then use "Check Dependencies" in the File menu. Note that once a project has been saved by Audacity 1.3 it cannot be opened by Audacity 1.2 (so you may want to use "Save As" and a different name for the pr...

Re: How to compute SPL from sound inputed from a microphone.
Which part are you having trouble with? Is it just the A-weighted measurement?
What's the "fudge factor"?
I may be able to help with the coding side, but how is an A-weighted measurement supposed to be calculated?

Re: Frustrating recording problems after reformatting to XP
if I have music playing inside the laptop and I am recording a sound from outside the laptop, Audacity will record BOTH. So will Windows Recorder. How do I remove this? Click Start > (Settings) > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices > Sounds and Audio devices. You should see something s...

Re: Question about effects
effects do NOT work DURING recording you apply the f/x AFTERwards so effects will be grayed out during recording but will be there when you stop That is correct, and may well be part of the problem, but I had alarm bells ringing about the recordings being "all treble". On this latter poin...

Re: Need notch filter but all there is is a doc to download
However wouldn't it be easier if they were simply available as updates. There was a discussion between the developers a while ago as to whether any kind of auto-update should be included in Audacity. It was decided at that time (and I believe rightly so) that including any networking capability int...

Re: poor quality audio after 1 min or so of recording
If you have Audacity set to record from the Behringer, then it should not really matter what the on-board sound card is doing, (because the USB sound card is not connected to the on-board sound card in any way), but you may want to mute or disable the on-board sound card just to avoid confusion. To ...
