Which version of Windows are you using?
Are you able to Export the tracks - use "Export Selection as WAV" for each track?

Re: abrupt loss of audio though waveform is present
Audacity projects are made of 2 parts - there is the .AUP file and there is the audio data that the .AUP file uses. You have probably moved, renamed or deleted some of the data that the project uses. See here for a more detailed explanation: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/File_Management_Tips

Re: (How) Can i batch convert files with audacity ?
Is it possible to set the bitrate when exporting to MP3 in batch mode? Not directly. Audacity uses whatever settings were used last. If you need to change the bit-rate, export a short dummy file in the required MP3 format and those settings will be retained by Audacity and used for future MP3 expor...

Re: When I track the beginning of next track is at end of ea
1.2.4 That version is obsolete and should really be upgraded. 1.2.6 is the one on the laptop that I was using. That's strange, I've never come across this problem with version 1.2.6. In fact I've only ever come across this problem with one old beta version (I think it was around 1.3.10). Are you us...
