A faulty sound card could cause that. If not the sound card hardware, then possibly the sound card drivers have a serious bug.
What equipment are you using? (sound card, computer, record player, operating system, version of Audacity ...)

Re: Digital "jukebox" to feed the analog stereo?

Here's another option - perhaps a bit pricey, but good reviews, particularly for ease of use, sound quality and manufacturers support.

Re: Importing Audio file

Can anyone let me have step by step instructions from Converting a track to getting it into Audacity? Have you upgrades to Audacity 1.3.12 yet? If not, download and install Audacity 1.3.12 and if you still need help come back here (then I'll move or split this topic to the Audacity 1.3.x part of th...

Re: Auto Back.....?

Do you kill the UNDO when you save the Project (second show) with a new name? You only kill "undo" if you close the Audacity Project. "Undo" is still available after "Save". Do I sense the idea that Audacity doesn't do BAK files any more I think that BAK files are stil...

Re: Digital "jukebox" to feed the analog stereo?

I'm looking for something like a 500GB iPod, or a "player" that can use an external drive. From the feedback so far, if such a gizmo exists, no-one here has seen or heard of it, so it looks like your choices are either (as you suggested) wait a few years and hope that something that meets...

Ooops -> Undo -> Save Project -> Redo -> Save Project As (with new name).

It doesn't answer your question, but it gets you out of the fix.

Re: website design

Thanks for your response. Do you know if it's even possible to design a player/recorder that will allow someone to listen to an mp3 track and mix in another track over it? Yes it can definitely be done, usually in java (I don't know about flash). This is outside the scope of this forum, you could m...

Re: File formats & data loss?

If the audio coming INTO Audacity is coming in via a 16-bit sound system...You're saying then that it can be converted internally from 16-bit original to 24/32 bit working files, Yes which then can be saved interanlly Yes but never exported as "music" in greater than 16-bit format. No. Yo...

Re: PLUG-IN: ODD ECHO5

A handy "big number" is NY:ALL The default value of NY:ALL is 1000000000 Other than for "artistic" value, 44100.000000 is identical to 44100.0 but 44100.0 is not the same as 44100 (44100.0 is a floating point value, but 44100 is an integer). So (SETQ NoS (SND-LENGTH SMP 999999999...
