could it be the version of audacity could be different and now not compatiable with my recorder? Audacity 1.2.6 only supports a very limited number of file formats. There is probably a "Noise Reduction" and/or "Echo Cancellation" and/or "Automatic Gain Control" and/or other effects switched on in your Sound Cards mixer application. Have a look for a loudspeaker icon near the Time/Date on your Desktop to access the sound card mixer....

The problem is the format that Olympus use for recording the audio.
