could it be the version of audacity could be different and now not compatiable with my recorder? Audacity 1.2.6 only supports a very limited number of file formats. To support additional formats you need to use Audacity 1.3.12 and also install FFMPEG. Audacity 1.3.12: http://audacityteam.org/downlo...

An alternative approach could be to provide a control in which the user can select the effects chain. For example:

There is probably a "Noise Reduction" and/or "Echo Cancellation" and/or "Automatic Gain Control" and/or other effects switched on in your Sound Cards mixer application. Have a look for a loudspeaker icon near the Time/Date on your Desktop to access the sound card mixer....

The problem is the format that Olympus use for recording the audio.
Have you tried opening one of the files with Audacity 1.3.12 ? (You will need to install the optional FFMPEG which is linked to on the download page: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac )
