Re: Burning CD

I have split the recordings into separate tracks by carefully following the instructions found in Audacity Wiki. I have done the Multiple Export At that point you should have a collection of WAV files (one for each "song"). What program are you using to burn the CD? If you are using Windo...

Re: Auto Gain?

that is not at all the case with the troublesome file in my original question. have you tried again with the troublesome file? If not, open Audacity, import the file, but before you export as WAV, look in the "Project Rate" box in the lower left corner of Audacity. Set this to 44100 if it...

Re: Noise Removal settings and useage

Your comment that it "seemed a bit loud" spured me to try to do something about it from a software direction. But, this too, may be beyond me for the time being. It may be worth just checking in the Windows Control Panel that the on-board sound card is disabled for recording. No guarantee...

Re: Monitoring while recording new track with mic

I'd suggest upgrading to Audacity 1.3.12, then in "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices" set the playback device to your sound card.

Re: dumb questions

Does anybody know if you can get the size of a file in (kb/MB) AS you are recording Not directly. does Audacity have a "size meter"? It will show the amount of remaining recoding time based on the amount of disk space on the current drive (watch the status bar at the bottom of the recordi...

Re: Can't remove noise from this audio clip

(the noise removal feature is slightly less complicated) The only differences between the effect in 1.3.12 vs. 1.3.13 are: 1.3.13 has a "Sensitivity" slider - this can help to remove more noise on some more troublesome samples. Normally you would leave this at 0.0, and when you've found t...

Try upgrading to the 1.3.12 version and then install FFMpeg.

Re: Noise Removal Tests

Now try those settings on a real-world example. For instance, import a CD track, add white noise at -40 dB and apply those settings. The result is horrible. Of course the results are horrible :D but I think that is half of the point - the optimum settings are dependent on the type of audio and the ...

Re: "reference to invalid character number at line 6"

The problem is probably due to invalid characters in either a file name or metatag. Most likely from an invalid character in an imported MP3 file. Audacity 1.2 is rather susceptible to this problem. If you attach the .AUP file to your reply we should be able to show you exactly where the problem lie...

Re: Bizarre beat noise cannot record

Try using headphones for monitoring instead of loudspeakers.
Switch off "Software Playthrough"
