Re: changing play speed (audible quality loss ?)
Some more detail: Yes, I do a lot of testing of Audacity. Yes Change Tempo and Change Pitch cause noticeable sound quality loss, particularly with large changes. Yes Change Speed causes a measurable distortion, but it is primarily "phase shift" which is virtually inaudible. There is also s...

Re: changing play speed (audible quality loss ?)
I would very much doubt that you would hear the difference if you only changed it a couple of times. Why not try it?

Which version of Audacity are you using? (look in Audacity Help menu > About Audacity)

Re: changing play speed (audible quality loss ?)
The "Change Tempo" and "Change Pitch" effects cause a noticeable quality loss, but quality loss from the "Change Speed" effect should not be noticeable. There will be some loss in quality even if it is not noticeable, so for best quality I would keep a backup copy of th...

Re: Audacity Installation unwanted changes.
The installer made unwanted changes to my system such as my IE home page Double check that it really is "Audacity" that you are trying to install. You may have inadvertently clicked on an advertising link on Sourceforge and downloaded the wrong program. Audacity does not change the IE hom...

Re: Phase jumps when recording
That sounds plausible. Perhaps you could try running a CPU temperature monitor - there are several free ones on the web and some motherboard manufacturers include one in their motherboard software pack.

Re: 1.3 fails to load but 1.2 works
My interpretation is that some component of XP went away. That component was called by 1.3.x and not by 1.2.6. The call could be in the source code or could be in the compiler used. My guess is that Audacity 1.3 is using a more recent C++ runtime that is either not installed or broken on your compu...

Re: Writing Cue Sheets to CD
I have always heard that the cue sheet did get written to the CD, so the player could tell that the disk was audio, and know where the tracks were without reading the whole disk prior to playback. No, the cue sheet tells the CD burning software how to arrange the CD tracks. Audi CD is a special for...

Re: Samson G-Track Static Noise
The microphone is a mono microphone so you should set Audacity to record mono.ringster wrote:I tried switching the mic to a couple different laptops running XP but it will only record on left side, no stereo,

Re: automatically line up and average out noise?
I agree that it's an interesting idea, and I'm also doubtful if you will be able to get it to work effectively. Perhaps if you could upload a few short samples we could give a more informed opinion of whether you have any realistic chance of success.
