Re: Home recording for beginners
Topic moved to the "Recording Techniques" section. "Normal" microphones may not be a good choice for "close mic'ing" as the sound pressure level close to a drum skin can be extreme. "Dynamic" microphones can usually handle toms reasonably well, and at a push m...

Please don't double post. See here: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 49#p108949
If you're unsure which version of Audacity to use - use Audacity 1.3.12 (the 1.2.6 version is now very old and is no longer supported by the developers.

Re: Two Microphones??
Audacity can only record from one device at a time. The computer sound card is one device. A USB microphone is another device. You can't record from both (with Audacity) at the same time. Re: Not your typical latency question
Avast should not be a problem - I run it on my Windows XP machine and it does not interfere with Audacity. 1-2 seconds delay sounds excessive, but it is not uncommon on Windows machines to have 0.5 to 1 second delay when using software playthrough from a USB device with Audacity 1.3.x. There were un...

Re: Mixing down mulstiple tracks.
Were as before the mastering, guitars where panned left and right. Not getting that now. Could it be how my friend mastered the tracks and mixed them down? Yes, that'll be a result of whatever processing he did. It may be worth asking your friend exactly what he did and check that those two tracks ...

Re: backslashes and double-quotes in text input widgets
My initial response is that these sound like excellent enhancements. There are no immediate problems that come to mind, and I doubt that it will break any of the existing plug-ins that are in general circulation. Have you tried it with the " Nyquist Generate Prompt "? I expect it will remo...
Re: Newbie
It is highly recommended that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 - the old 1.2.6 version is no longer developed or supported. During recording you should see the red recording meters react to the sound that is being recorded and a blue wiggly waveform appear on the audio track. To record sounds that are...
