Re: understanding peak-meters
Yes, you only need to know the absolute value of a sample (modulus), but that is not what the Peak meters show. If you look at the waveform on an Audacity track you will notice that the default view has a linear vertical scale in the range +/- 1 A waveform will clip (distort) if the waveform exceeds...

Re: Recording a "Live" stream using audacity 1.3 Beta.
Should the stereo mix input be available in any computer? No. "Stereo Mix" is not available on Mac computers, and it is becoming increasingly rare on Windows computers. Back in the days of Windows XP it was pretty common on Windows, but it has been steadily phased out. It seems that soon ...

Re: export recordings to tuxguitar or guitarpro
Converting audio to MIDI is a very complex task, especially if there is more than one note playing at a time.
Good luck with your search - if you find a good program that can do this (especially if it is a free open source program), do let us know - I'm sure there will be many other users interested.

Re: Error Importing
Have you been able to convert the files from your Olympus VN-6200 PC?
I'm sure it will be useful for other users if you can give at least a brief account of how you did so.

Re: Audacity rocks!
You will probably run up against some limitations eventually, but at that point you will probably find Audacity so useful that you continue to use it alongside other tools.
As a matter of interest, which Linux distro are you using? Do you use Jack?

Re: Access to the Envelope Tool via the keyboard?
Hi Robbie, What you are describing here sounds very much like another effect that already exists in Audacity 1.3.x called "Auto Duck". You will find Auto Duck as the third item in the Effect menu. To use Auto Duck, the track with talking must be directly below the track with music and then...

Re: ???? I need help big time!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm aware that you have a Mac, but let me put it another way - I don't know of an easy, inexpensive way to produce an autotune effect in Audacity on a Mac.
An alternative would be to use Garageband (Google for Autotune Garageband)

Don't use the dot "." character in the file name.
The safe way to name files is to use only letters, numbers, space, underscore and hyphen.

Re: ???? I need help big time!!!!!!!!!!!
It may be a silly question, but do you have access to a Windows computer? GSnap is a Windows VST plug-in and it works with Audacity 1.3.12 on Windows (though the MIDI functions are not supported by Audacity).
