Re: Why re-compress unchanged audio tracks
My original post was not about why one would ever use the feature, but about already-compressed sound files that didn't need updating getting rewritten by compressing Audacity's working files which were derived from them, That suggests that Audacity is accessing compressed audio files within the pr...

Re: Can't find saved items (newbie)
I presume that you are using Audacity 1.3.12 (look in Audacity "Help > About Audacity"). If you are using an older version, upgrade before proceeding. http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows Go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Import/Export" and remove the tick from "Show...

Re: Define custom file format
You could export them from Asterisk as WAV files, then Audacity would be able to open them natively. otherwise you will need to manually add arguments during Import into Audacity. SLN files are 16 bit signed audio at 8khz. 2 bytes per sample, no compression, 8000 samples per second, network byte ord...

Re: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (Pt. 1) Guitar Effect?
At one point they show a solid body electric guitar (around 1:37), though at that point it sounds to me more like an Ovation (with a 12 string semi-acoustic guitar panned the other side).

Re: how to use Truncate Silence
porphyry5, I think that the confusion is arising out of how Truncate Silence handles multiple tracks. The assumption in Truncate Silence is that if you have multiple tracks then they are all meaningful components of the same project. So, for example, if you have a vocal track and a music track one a...

Re: Anyway of DEMOFYING up a real mp3 track using Audacity?
Try messing around with extreme settings with the Equalization effect.
You will find this much easier to do if you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12. http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows

Re: Recordings came out too loud
when I move the slider to the right to increase the gain it doesn't effect the 'display" but it sure does effect the actual recording. If I export the file, and then re-open it, there is a big difference! Yes, that is how it is supposed to work. The track Gain slider increases the playback vol...
