Re: Audacity 1.3.12 - How to transfer over projects from 1.2

Audacity doesn't copy music inside itself for editing unless you change it in Preferences. It uses snippets and clips from music files and just leaves each music file right where it is. See here for more information about how Audacity handles files: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/File_Management...

Re: RECORDING LOW BACKGROUND MUSIC W/ VOICE

You can do it using the "Overdub" feature. I presume that you are using Audacity 1.3.12, but if not, upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 first. Enable "Overdub" in the "Transport" menu. (Software Playthrough must be OFF) Import or record your music track. Use the Volume Slider i...

Re: USB Mic Doesn't Connect

Audacity is not compatible with Skype. When Skype is started, it takes over exclusive control of the sound system and does not allow access to applications such as Audacity. If you shut down Skype completely (normally when you close Skype it continues to run in the background, but you will need to s...

Re: Why re-compress unchanged audio tracks

does the gap between get encoded as silence and still take up space? Yes it gets encoded as silence, but because Ogg is using VBR encoding it takes up very little space. A minute of silence will only be around 10kB. But losing the envelopes, now that's a surprise It's another reason why Compressed ...

Re: Why re-compress unchanged audio tracks

I think Audacity should create a new .aup file and a new _data folder when opening a compressed project, prompting the user for a unique name. That sounds to me like a very good idea. Not only would it avoid the "bloated" projects that you mention, but it would also make it a lot more cle...

Re: Music Display Colours

It may be worth noting that when importing some MP3s that have heavy dynamic range compression there can be a lot of red lines showing. If using Audacity 1.3.12, the audio can be recovered without causing additional damage by applying the Amplify effect with a small negative value (for example -0.5 ...

Re: error while opening sound device?

I have all the same symptoms as described here but I am still unable to get Audacity to work at all. Error message still keeps appearing despite trying all the suggestions made here. I have had it working but only able to record one vinyl album then it stopped working. I am using a USB turntable to...

Re: Why re-compress unchanged audio tracks

when it comes to compressed projects a different approach could have be done... like one file per track? That's what does happen with compressed projects. I think there should be a warning if overwriting an existing project with a compressed copy. Interestingly, in Audacity 1.3.12 you are not allow...

A dozen screen capture programs for Linux: http://linuxappfinder.com/graphics/screencapture

I particularly like "Shutter" (integrates extremely well with Ubuntu 10) and "Mirage" (very light and fast).
