Re: Why are files always saved differently?

If you import a 24 or 32 bit uncompressed audio file, and then export it in the original format with a different name, the two files will be identical. If you use other formats there will be some degree of difference, but unless using a low quality compressed format the difference will be extremely ...

Does it play back correctly after you have recorded it?

Re: understanding peak-meters

when transcribing LPs, I use -6 dB for my setting on the loudest part of the LP. Ticks and pops may clip, but who cares? Live recording is another matter. I've found that -12 dB is usually adequate. But again you have to set your levels during the loudest expected passage. I quite agree, though if ...

Re: HELP PLZ

Im trying to record skype calls. How do i change the input to stereo mix? You can't. When Skype is running it takes over the sound system and prevents "Stereo Mix" from being selected. To record Skype calls you need specialist software such as Pamela or Total Recorder (there are also seve...

Re: Close file without closing Audacity?

That is already possible in Audacity 1.3.12, though it is a bit quirky how it works.
Go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Interface tab"
Deselect "Closing last window quits Audacity"
You will now need to select "Exit" or use the shortcut Ctrl+Q to close (quit) Audacity.

Re: Recording BBC Radio programmes

Steve, <Do your speakers have a volume control on them? ...> How do I find that out? I guess that means "no". I mean a physical volume knob on the speakers - I'm assuming that you have external speakers, or is this a laptop computer? Hovering the mouse pointer over the speaker icon in the...
