Re: Editing MP3s

There's a small problem with editing MP3 files which is due to the nature of MP3s. MP3s are "compressed" - that is, that the audio information is squashed up by "encoding" the data and "unimportant" parts are discarded, so as to make the file size smaller. This process ...

Re: Copy and pasting MP3 files will result in pitch change

Your description sounds just like a common problem that there was in Audacity 1.2 due to its inability to support multiple sample rates in the same track, but that does not apply to any version of Audacity 1.3.x and certainly not to 1.3.12 so I'm totally confused about what you mean. Just in case yo...

Re: How to email an audacity file

By far the easiest way is to Export an MP3 file and send that.

Re: Tone control plug-in

How about - if instead of the Normalize control, I just put in an option: Use Overload Prevention: Yes (read Help) / No (safer on long tracks) and in the Help File: TONE CONTROLS: To increase treble (high frequencies) or bass (low frequencies), move the appropriate slider to right. Move the slider t...

Re: Tone control plug-in

Thanks for the suggestions Gale. I'm not sure about the first part of "Normalize Output" help - I'll sleep on it. Yes I agree, technical details can go in the comments. When I am in the mood to get the "perfect result", I use all the available graphic EQ sliders so I would regret...

Re: Automating Repetitive Tasks

It's a custom shortcut he set. As he also did for Mix and Render. I thought it looked unfamiliar :P I don't know if it works on Macs, but for Windows and Linux: Alt+T Down -- Stereo to Mono Alt+T Down Down -- Mix and Render (a bit off-topic, but an interesting shortcut that I regularly use: Ctrl+Sh...

Is that a standard shortcut or a custom one?

Re: Everything is being recorded, not just the cassette.

Cool, so at least that bit's working - now you just need some recording volume. There is probably a volume control near the top of the Audacity window, but it may well be greyed out. Could you just check and see if there is a recording level slider showing, and whether it is greyed out (not availabl...

Re: Recording in Audacity while it's not the active program?

Yeah I guess I basically will not be using Audacity to record anything, I may still use it to edit though! I rarely use Audacity for actual recording - usually I use a hard disk recorder, a Zoom H2, or at work ProTools, but I do the majority of my editing in Audacity. There's a lot of other reasons...

Re: Everything is being recorded, not just the cassette.

Too much information is better than not enough. Audacity 1.3 could be anything from 1.3.0 to 1.3.12. You should be using 1.3.12.
Did you find a "USB" option in the Record settings? Have you selected it?
