Re: defaults for Click Removal effect & advice sought

The default is 200 and 20. I hardly ever use this effect, but my advice would be to experiment with a range of settings on a quiet section of your recording. If you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 (highly recommended) you may find it useful to increase the "Preview Time" to say 5 seconds (Edit ...

Re: when to use gain and when to use amplify

From reading Steve's information, gain should be used get the needed volume for a given track before mixing rather than amplify before mixing? I do a lot of mixing, and use a combination of both methods. For example, if the source material is close to 0 dB and I'm going to use multiple layers, the ...

Re: Notch Filter Preference and Tinnitus

Charlie was not aiming for "desensitization" (in the sense of "Neuromonics") but rather at filtering music to eliminate those frequencies that aggravate his tinnitus, thus enabling him to enjoy listening to music. His last post on the subject suggests that he has found removing a...

Re: Recording and Export at 24 bit

If you export the same file as 16 bit Flac level 8, the file should be roughly 30% smaller. Also, MediaInfo and SUPER should report the bit depth of the Flac files correctly. Is there a definitive way to determine the sampling rate of the recording? If the track says 24 bit in the Info area of the T...

Re: Tone control plug-in

Is one extra pair of sliders worth considering for "Bass/Treble" so you have "Deep Bass", "Light Bass","Soft Treble","High Treble" or some such? You mean "Presets"? For the Bass/Treble effect? Possible, but I think it makes it look too com...

Re: Tone control plug-in

Rats - I posted an extensive reply, but it's disappeared  Asssuming I'm correct this a problem with Audacity-Nyquist, then it (and anything else in the Nyquist wish list which is a bug /performance limitation) can in principle be tracked as a bug on Bugzilla (as opposed to an enhancement). How...

Re: when to use gain and when to use amplify

The "Amplify" effect changes the audio data, making it louder or quieter. The "Gain" slider (on the left side of the track) does not change the actual data - it just changes how loud it plays. For this reason you can adjust it as often as you like and the original audio data is t...

Re: USB Line Input

are there any considerations I need to be aware of? There should be no special considerations in getting any "basic" USB sound card working. Some more complex USB sound cards use special drivers to provide additional functionality, but for a basic line-in / line-out sound card (such as th...

That is the expected behaviour in Audacity 1.2 but it should not happen in Audacity 1.3

Could you look in "Edit > Preferences > Quality" and say what the settings are.
