There's also an option in the File menu to "Export Selected" audio.

Try that.

Audacity does not support VST instrument (only VST effects). I assume the same for AU instruments.

Import both files into the same Audacity window.

If you record the side of the album, and then lift the stylus and place it back at the start so that it records again, is it correct the second time?

I've tested from UK, Germany and US. The links are working from all three locations, so the problem is not at the website end.
Perhaps try again tomorrow.

WAV files don't have channel names.

What are the sample rates of the tracks? (look in the panel on the left end of each track)
