Re: Audacity later versions automatic clip fixing
You have posted in the Audacity 1.2.x part of the forum. Do you mean Audacity 1.3.12? In Audacity 1.3.12 audio data may be greater than 0 dB if it is in "32 bit float" format (default). For most purposes this is a great advantage, but it means that you can no longer distort the audio by am...

Re: Recording speed slightly off; extremely off in 88.2 kHz
The Photoshop analogy is missing some important elements. Most importantly it is only considering "Playback". A more complete visual analogy would be to consider a scanner > Photoshop > printer. With the sound card you are "converting" a physical thing (sound) into a digital repr...

Re: I found out how to record Skype or VoIP
2) In Skype 5.0.0: menu Tools, Options, Audio Settings, Microphone: Select 'Stereo Mix' Testing on Vista with an Acer Aspire 5735. As soon as I do that Skype cannot hear the microphone, so neither can the person I'm trying to talk to and my microphone is not recorded by Audacity. The only way for t...

Re: Recording speed slightly off; extremely off in 88.2 kHz
shouldn't at least 44.1 kHz work normally then? Yes it "should", but if this is an on-board sound card then I doubt that the manufacturer publishes a specification for the audio clock accuracy. Even if they did, would you expect it to be better than 0.005% During the first 10-15 seconds, ...

Re: Recording speed slightly off; extremely off in 88.2 kHz
If you check the specification of the RealTek ALC662 you will see that the ADC and DAC support 44.1k/48k/96kHz only. If you force a sample rate that is different from these, then the sound card needs to extrapolate the data to fit the requested sample rate. There is no guarantee that the sound card ...

Re: REALLY obvious multitrack recording question -- HELP!
They tell you to select "Mix-Out" or something similar for recording instead of one of the standard audio connections. You need to change that. So if you are recording with a microphone that is plugged into the "Mic" socket of your sound card, you need to set the Recording input...

Re: enable software playthrough and I can't record
Hi, good to see you on this forum.
A couple of questions regarding your patch;
Is "Software Playthrough" ever required in Audacity on Ubuntu?
Although I do not generally use Software Playthrough, I have just tested with Audacity 1.3.13 svn (not patched) on Ubuntu 10.10 and it works fine.

Re: Getting Audio From TV
Many computers (laptop PCs in particular) are set up by default for voip, Skype and similar applications. There is often a "sound card mixer / control panel" which can be accessed via an icon near to the Time/Date. Hidden among the multiple tabs and settings there are often some "enha...

Re: Notch Filter Preference and Tinnitus
For listening to music at home, it may be worth trying a Graphic Equalizer . This type of device can be used with any "separates" music system - it is placed immediately before the amplifier in the signal path, or if available may be placed between the pre-amp and power amp. Unlike the &qu...

Re: Can't open wav files
it would be helpful if the "Help" box cited in my first post in this thread gave a link to MediaInfo for testing the actual format of the file and to installation info on FFmpeg and any other such facilities that are helpful for opening other camouflaged formats. It would be more helpful ...
