Re: combined mic/phones jack
My laptop's only audio out jack is a combined headphone/mic jack. Without using a USB mike or recording interface, is there a way that I can listen to existing tracks while recording a new one? I'd go for "No" unless you use headphones to listen and use the internal microphone for recordi...

I'm suggesting that 15000 filter as a guess In the posted sample there is a very high frequency whistle at about 15800 Hz This will not be removed by a low pass filter at 15000 but can be very effectively removed with a notch filter. Here is a suitable notch filter - I've customised it so that the ...

Re: USB Line Input
In the Windows Control Panel > Sounds section > Recording tab Select the USB device and click Properties then the Advanced tab, and make sure the "Default format" is set to stereo. Then in Audacity 1.3.12 (have you updated to Audacity 1.3.12 yet?) go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Devi...

Re: Best way to record a bass track
Is this the one to go for or would you recommend considering other alternatives? There are a lot of alternatives and a broad price range. The Cakewalk UA-1G is an updated version of the (discontinued) Edirol UA1-EX which is reviewed by waxcylinder in this topic: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewto...

Re: 1.2.6 noise removal superior to 1.3.6 ??
The download file is a .ZIP file. The .NY file must be "extracted" from the ZIP archive file. Did you restart Audacity? The effect will not show up until Audacity is restarted. If you have had both Audacity 1.2 and 1.3 installed, check that you have put the .NY file into the correct folder...

Re: Putting mp3s togethor
I have a program called direct mp3 joiner and it actually does what I want without re encoding. The documentation on the DMJ website is vague about this point and only makes claims to "join" files without re-encoding. Although Direct MP3 Joiner can join MP3s one after another without re-e...

Re: Putting mp3s togethor
You mean "mix" MP3's. To mix audio tracks they must be decoded into uncompressed audio. Audacity does that automatically when you import MP3s. This can be done easily with Audacity 1.3.12. You will also need to install Lame if you need to Export in MP3 format. The down side is that re-comp...
