Re: Noise Reduction Trick
Is it common enough to burn it permanently into the effect? Yes and it is already in Audacity 1.3.13 alpha. The amount of "amplification" of the noise profile is set by the new "Sensitivity" slider. The default Sensitivity setting of 0 dB equates to the same as it is in Audacity...

Re: Using audacity to measure the speed of sound
If it is stereo, where does the computer put the battery voltage? I've not tried to measure it, but I presume the voltage is still there. That would not be good for the headphones, but presumably the current is limited to a very low level. It may even use a current detecting circuit to shut down th...

Re: Analysis of files
dB is not a "unit" it is a "ratio". dB measurements are always made with reference to some absolute level. In audio recording, the reference level (0 dB) is taken as the "full scale" amplitude. This is known as 0 dBFS (dB Full Scale). By default this is shown on a track...

Re: record button does nothing
There are known problems with Audacity 1.2 on modern computers with modern operating systems. The recommended version of Audacity for Windows 7 is Audacity 1.3.12 http://audacityteam.org/download/ When you first start Audacity 1.3.12, go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices" and check tha...

Re: 1.2.6 noise removal superior to 1.3.6 ??
Thanks for coming to the rescue. a nice feature in Audacity would be to have a "preset" dropdown list for nyquist plugins. I could include a few different settings there for people to play with. Some presets would be really nice. In "Version 3" Nyquist plug-ins there is a GUI Mul...

Sounds vs. Behaviours
I've just been caught out (again) by this one, but having solved the problem I think this is a good example so I'm posting it. Background: As stated in the Nyquist Manual, " sounds are not behaviors! " http://www.audacity-forum.de/download/edgar/nyquist/nyquist-doc/manual/part3.html#23 sou...

Could you tell me exactly what options are available in Audacity "Preferences > Devices" (note that the options will probably change if you switch from "Host > MME" to "Host > Direct Sound", so write down the options for both). Sorry for bugging so much, Don't worry abo...

Re: Memorex turntable & Win 7 help
First thing is to update Audacity. The current version is 1.3.12 and it fixes a couple of important bugs in the 1.3.10 version (this does not relate to this particular problem). http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows Re. the USB not being recognised. The USB device must be connected and recog...

Re: Using audacity to measure the speed of sound
Two microphones plugged into a 2:1 adaptor into the computer and a distance of about 3.5 meters apart. A clapper board 5 cm from one microphone would give two distinct peaks on the recording that could be measured reasonably precisely. Ideally the experiment would be either in a big open space, or i...

Re: Audacity for Android 2.1 - maybe a fake ?
Audacity does not run on Android and there are no plans do develop Audacity for running on mobile devices. You can use Audacity for editing audio that can be used on mobiles, such as editing ring tones (provided that they are in a supported audio format such as MP3) so perhaps that is what they meant.
