Re: Project exports mp3 with warbling distortion?

The loss of sound quality begins as soon as the audio is converted into a " lossy " compressed format. Then the sound quality deteriorates a little bit more each time the audio is re-compressed. Original recording -> lossy compression -> 128kbps MP3 -> lossy compression -> wmv -> lossy com...

Re: Effects?

Just spend a bit of time playing with Audacity slark and you'll soon get the hang of it.
I would highly recommend that you use Audacity 1.3.12 rather than Audacity 1.2 (not sure which version you have, but you posted in the Audacity 1.2 part of the forum).

Re: Effects?

It depends on what the changes are. Things like volume level, volume envelopes, pan position, position of an audio clip on a track and so on can be readjusted. If on the other hand you have applied an effect (such as reverb) then that can't be removed once the project has been closed. For several ef...

Re: streaming music form Napster

Napster may be more demanding on your computer than other players and your computer is struggling to keep up. As they are in the business of selling downloads, you wouldn't expect them to make it easy for you to copy without paying.

Re: Using audacity to measure the speed of sound

And the current atmospheric pressure ? Not significant. The temperature is not particularly significant either unless it is either very hot or very cold. According to my "speed of sound" measurements the temperature in this room should be about 50 C :D (so why does it feel more like 17 C ...

Re: recording with a powered mixer and laptop

Sounds good to me. I would highly recommend using Audacity 1.3.12 and not the (very) old 1.2.6 version. One problem that you may run into is with the audio input on the laptop. What you need is a "line level" input, which will match the "line level" output from the "record o...

Re: Effects?

In Audacity 1.3.12 "View menu > History" This shows you a list of everything that you've done since you started this particular Audacity session. This list is not saved when you save the project (it would make the projects hugely bigger). Virtually anything that you do within an Audacity s...

Re: Analysis of files

There is no direct correlation between dBFS in Audacity and dB (SPL). When you play a track in Audacity, how "loud" it is (the SPL) does not only depend on the "level" (dBFS) of the track, it also depends on how much your amplifier is turned up, how efficient your speakers are at...

Re: Newbie Problems

'Course the WAV file takes up about 1.5 GB of space, whereas the WMA file is about 0.12 GB - BIGGGG difference But if you burn a standard audio CD that will be compatible with ordinary CD players, the must both end up as 16 bit 44100 Hz PCM audio. 1.5 GB will not fit onto one CD, so when you try to...

Re: Using audacity to measure the speed of sound

Guys aren't we maybe overwhelming bianca with too much info here? ;) Quite probably, if she's still reading, but at least her questions were answered first (about 10 posts back). Hopefully we haven't done too much of her homework. If bianca has any Audacity further related questions, we will have t...
