Re: After highlighting, still unable to copy or delete
You may have been "Paused" rather than "Stopped". Most Audacity functions require that playback/recording is "Stopped".

Re: track length info
Windows Media Player has rather a lot of limitations (quite surprising considering it's enormous size). One such limitation is that it does not support FLAC files, which is a shame as FLAC is a lossless compressed format (sound quality is not compromised, but files are reduced in size by around 50%)...

Re: Line in Overload
4th pic You might just about get away with that for now. It is a much higher recording level than ideal, but the clipping does not look too bad and may not be very noticeable. A new sound card is probably the solution. It probably does not need to be an expensive sound card, but it does need to be ...

How big is your C: drive and how much free hard disk space do you have on your C: drive? Have you defragmented the drive recently? If not it would be a good idea to defragment it. The "machine noise" may be caused by the power supply - Laptop PCs are notorious for this - the only real solu...

Re: corrupted .auf file
Create a new folder and copy the Audacity Project file (.AUP) and the project data folder ( filename _data) into it. That's your backup in case you mess up. .AU and .AUF are different types of file - they cannot be converted from one to the other. Probably the best option is to open the Audacity Pro...

Re: Line in Overload
This does indeed sound strange. As Koz has said, turning the record volume down to 0 should produce a recording of silence (no signal).
I'm wondering if it is a driver problem.
What make/model is your computer?

Re: where is my recorded data after program crash?
See here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=CrashRecovery Once you've sorted out or given up on this particular problem I would highly recommend that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12. Most users find it to be more stable than the old 1.2.6 version, and in the event of a crash it can usually...

Re: How to find RMS value?
1. Back-up the original files safely (FLAC is a good format for this) Do you mean after i have "Edit/process/mix/Eq/" etc, step 2? I mean, make sure that you have a backup copy of all of your original audio files before you do anything else. Backups are a complete waste of time, until you...

Re: Static, OS 10.4.11
If it is loud bursts of "static" then it is probably due to the USB connection loosing synchronisation. Avoid using a USB hub, connect the USB turntable directly to the computer. Avoid using other USB devices at the same time. Avoid running other programs at the same time as you are record...

Re: is it possible to hear my vocal track while recording ?
If you Import an audio file and press Play, can you hear it?
If you can, then look at the bottom of the "Transport" menu and ensure that "Overdub" is selected.
"Software Playthrough" should NOT be selected.
