Re: Can't get a device in prefs to show for recording in v1.

I think we can all feel your frustration at repeatedly hitting a brick wall. Often the problem of "no stereo mix" is due to the sound card drivers not providing that feature, though I have read (but not yet confirmed) that stereo mix is disabled in the hardware as you have said. To try and...

Re: How to remove high-pitched s's from these vocals?

Have you been in touch with the studio about this? There is clearly a problem with sibilance which in my opinion the studio people should have noticed and rectified at an early stage in the recording. The best solution would be a complete re-take, possibly with a different microphone and/or micropho...

Re: autotune plugin for ubuntu tutorial

There are two (free) options that come to mind: Autotalent v0.2 http://web.mit.edu/tbaran/www/autotalent.html It cannot be used in real-time with Audacity, but is fully functional as an "applied" effect. Unfortunately it is not currently available in the Ubuntu repositories but you can dow...

Re: MP3 Export Adding Garbage at Beginning

You can often get away with having a short amount of silence if the loop points (start and end of the file) are at zero crossing points http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_crossing particularly if the start and end are at "silent" points in the loop. For example, if it is looped speech and t...

Re: Negating the effects of soft limiting

I'm talking about soft limiting, which applies a variable amount of distortion and a big gain in loudness by crushing the waveform. No attack or release or anything. The effect you are referring to is more accurately described as "soft clipping". Yes it is possible to reverse soft clippin...

Re: v1.26 or v1.3.12 beta for Windows 7?

I received an email with a little audio player in the email that provided a "play" button to give the receiver a choice to play the attached audio file or not I've seen that done using JavaScript, but again the ability of e-mails to run arbitrary JavaScript code is a serious security vuln...

Re: autotune plugin for ubuntu tutorial

This is the Audacity 1.2 part of the forum - I think you've probably got Audacity 1.3.12 (look in "Help menu > About Audacity")

Antares Autotune is not available for Linux as far as I'm aware.

Re: Line in Overload

That looks much better. How does it sound? How does it sound on really quiet bits? Web Cam mic: Clear signs of DC offset - The "silence" between words is clearly below the centre line. With basic Mic into sound Max: The "spikes" at the beginning of each word look like what happen...

Re: corrupted .auf file

So, always always always save your WAV! Yes, absolutely. I'd also recommend upgrading to Audacity 1.3.12 which has a feature in the "File" menu called "Check Dependencies". This allows you to check if your project is dependent on any external files and if there are it gives you ...
