Re: vbr

Assuming that you are using Audacity 1.3.12 File menu > Import > Audio select the MP3 file and import it. Press the Play button. Does it play OK? If it plays OK, then you can edit it and Export it as a new file. The point that Trebor was making is that encoding as MP3 always causes some loss of soun...

Re: Amplify effect not working

What I was explaining was that when I selected the whole project, it would not amplify. the Amplify effect will amplify to a maximum of 0 dB (which is when a peak in the waveform reaches the top or bottom of the track). Amplifying any higher than this will push the waveform off the edges of the tra...

Re: Remove an effect that almost sounds like being underwate

There's a lot of things wrong there. The recording level is far too low - ideally the peaks should be coming up to about half of the track height. There is a lot of background noise - some of this is due to the quality of the sound card (I'd guess it is an on-board sound card) and some is electrical...

Re: Intermittent Static

The recommended version of Audacity for Windows 7 is Audacity 1.3.12. Earlier versions are likely to have a lot of problems. I suspect that the problem is that you are recording a bit too loud. On an ideal recording, the highest peaks on the waveform should be about half of the track height and shou...

Re: Audiacity 1.2.6 error while recording ... cant open temp

The first thing that I'd recommend is upgrading to Audacity 1.3.12. The 1.2.6 version is now very old and is no longer being developed or supported by the developers. Don't be put off by the "beta" label, it is a very mature beta and very close to becoming the new Audacity 2.0 How big is y...

Re: Help with LAME MP3 Encoder Install

Ashley5ash, I'd highly recommend upgrading to Audacity 1.3.12 (it's a much better program than the ancient 1.2.6 version and all of the regular forum contributors use and are more familiar with it). Most functions in Audacity are only available when you are in "Stop" mode. Most functions a...

Re: Can't get a device in prefs to show for recording in v1.

I think my feelings will be summed-up musically if you listen to the recording at this link... :D my biggest laugh of the day. I covered the high-tech loopback cable solution in paragraph 4. I'm not sure how accurate it is to describe a piece of wire as "high-tech" :? OK, so it's 2 pieces...

Re: Static pops at the end of Audacity-edited WAV files

As you are an iTunes user I'd recommend that you use iTunes to encode WAV files to AAC rather than using Audacity. In Audacity AAC encoding is provided by FFmpeg and AAC encoding in FFmpeg is still experimental. If a file ends abruptly you may get a "click" at the end of the file. To avoid...

In what format? MP3?
43 kbps will produce very low quality sound and is a non-standard rate for MP3.
