Re: Correct version of lame for 1.3.12-beta ??
am I right in thinking that I cannot export Audacity files to MP3 format without lame? Correct. Can you tell me please how I can confirm that/find where the file is located. You can check if Lame is installed and Audacity is configured to use it by going to "Edit menu > Preferences > Libraries...

Re: Saving MP3 mod's
Thanks for the detailed post. I think that what is happening is due to the MP3 encoding. MP3s are inexact copies of the original data with some of the (less important) audio data discarded. Depending on the audio material, the encoder and the encoder settings, the peak amplitude of an MP3 can be hig...

Re: How to record my voice
Microphone plugged into the Xenyx mixer channel number 1 with XLR lead? Does the microphone require "phantom power"? If so, do you have phantom power switched on? Do you have a signal on the mixer's level meter when you speak into the microphone? (If it's a green>amber>red LED meter it sho...

Re: Mute/Solo buttons ignored by Mix and Render
The only way I can see out of this conundrum is for Mix and Render to throw an error if any of the selected tracks are Soloed or Muted. The "Mixing Down" warnings could be updated and used for both "Mixing down to mono/stereo during export" and "Mix and Render". mix-wa...

Re: Making TiMidity run
Hang on in there digi. I'm not going to be able to help with anything that is specific to Windows 7 as I've never used it. I've currently got it installed on my laptop (Ubuntu 10.10) and it works great, which I'm sure makes you very happy ;) I've got access to Windows XP so I'll install it there and...

Re: nyquist theorem misuse - ramifications
if one converts between music formats with different sampling rates, the music can be distorted when the conversion is performed, You can test this experimentally with Audacity. Resampling from 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz produces an inaudible but measurable amount of distortion which has an essentially fla...

Re: Recording stops in 1 to 10 seconds
Are you saying (in my language!!!) that I should unpug my Laptop when I am using audacity, so that the hum sound will be less? I'm saying that you should try that and see (hear) if it makes a significant improvement. Of course if you're recording when running from batteries you will need to keep an...

Re: Mute/Solo buttons ignored by Mix and Render
I'd argue that mute and solo are not "transformations". but it's certainly open to more than one interpretation. I wasn't saying I thought it was right I thought that would probably be the case Bill. Can I press you on your opinion? :P This command "fixes" that mix by rendering ...

Re: How to split a track with two constrasting voices
I doubt that you could do that. If you look at the frequencies in each voice (Analyze menu > Plot Spectrum) you will see that each voice contains a broad range of frequencies. You may notice subtle differences between the child's voice and the adult's voice, but to a great extent the frequency bands...
