Re: Draft: HOWTO convert audio file formats

Creating an Executable Bash Script File In the previous example we had 12 lines of code. Rather than needing to type, or copy/paste this into a terminal window each time we want to use it, it would be much more convenient if we could just save it as a file and then "run" the file when we ...

Re: Draft: HOWTO convert audio file formats

I usually use semicolons when running such commands from the command line Semicolons are nice when running a series of short commands as they can be all typed on the same line. For example, starting from the users home, creating a folder on the Desktop with two folders inside it: cd Desktop; mkdir ...

Re: Making TiMidity run

Update:
The method described in my last post for changing soundfonts works .... eventually
Unfortunately it seems to take several restarts of Timidity to make the change take effect. :(

Re: Making TiMidity run

So this 25 MB piano soundfont would replace the "system" soundfont and not the soundfont that I placed in TiMidity then, right? wrong :D The 25 MB piano soundfont would be used in Timidity. You can "install" multiple soundfonts into Timidity in exactly the same way as you instal...

Re: Draft: HOWTO convert audio file formats

I added some indentation to your final script, to make it more easily readable I'd left it not-indented because up to that point there is no mention of saving scripts as an executable file. My examples can all be run by typing, or copy/paste directly into a terminal window. The final example would ...

Re: Is my recording level too low? Is my amplified level ok?

The recording level looks fine - the peaks in the loud part are at about -6 dB (0.5 on the linear scale) which is ideal. However, the tops of the peaks look flat, which indicates that the sound is being clipped/distorted before it gets to Audacity. If you give full details of the equipment used and ...

Re: how to remove music and keep vocals?

There's a very wide range of frequencies in a voice (select part of a voice recording in Audacity, then select "Plot Spectrum" from the Analyze menu to see a graph of the frequencies). There will be an enormous amount of overlap between the two voices, making it impossible to separate them...

Re: Blue Yeti - ZERO LATENCY

If I have an instrumental loaded in audacity and I want to record over it, can I listen to that at the same time as listening to my voice in real time without the delay that you get with other USB mics With Audacity 1.3.12 that is possible IF it is supported by the audio hardware ("sound card&...

Re: recording

If you set the recording and playback settings in the Windows Mixer (which can be accessed through the Windows Control Panel http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel ) then you should only need to set Audacity to use the "Sound Mapper" settings for bot...

Re: converting midi to audio files

For support with Sonar or other Cakewalk products see here: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/ Audacity does not currently support playing or recording MIDI, but can be used to record the audio from other software or hardware that is playing the MIDI.
