Re: Flanger effect when recording
The signal from a mixer, or from a CD player is about 1000 x more powerful than a microphone signal. If you are plugging the mixer (or CD player) into a microphone input it is unlikely to work well.jouls wrote:i am using the computers integrated sound card, it is superb with any mic that you plug it in,

Re: VBR MP3 file creators?
"320 kbps VBR means that the highest bit rate is being used for the entire file)." Sorry - a typo. Should have been: The highest quality MP3 is 320 kbps CBR (320 kbps is the highest bit rate in the MP3 format, so 320 kbps means that the highest bit rate is being used for the entire file)....

Re: Draft: HOWTO convert audio file formats
You can simply put the path to bash like this: #!/bin/bash That's what I normally do, but #!/usr/bin/env bash is more portable (provided that /usr/bin/env exists and contains the path to bash - which it should). I've not done much bash scripting, but I've noticed that even when I've forgotten to us...
Re: BAK Files
There are 2 parts to an Audacity Project. There is the .AUP file (which stores instructions for Audacity but does NOT hold any audio data) and there is the audio data (which is separate from the .AUP file. See here for more information: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Audacity_Projects The .BAK f...

Re: stereorecording in 1.13(beta)
For Vista and Windows 7 use Audacity 1.3.12. Windows 7 has it's own setting for mono/stereo recording. If that is set to "mono" then Audacity 1.2.x may appear to record stereo, but it is actually recording just one channel twice (which is a bug), whereas Audacity 1.3.12 will (correctly) on...

Re: Scrolling of waveform display while recording
As far as I'm aware: 1: When cursor reaches end of screen, tracks jump back a couple of inches; Applies when recording into an empty (new) Audacity Project. 2: When cursor reaches end of screen, tracks jump back full screen width; Applies when other tracks already exist in the project and contain au...

Re: Project preferences?
I'm not sure how audacity handles the preferences file on window The default location for Audacity Preferences has been given by waxcylinder, but it is also possible to store preferences for multiple versions of Audacity by creating a folder inside the Audacity installation folder and name it "...

Re: only a low buzz noise coming through my microphone
My guess is that the sound card is broken. 1) Have you got an alternative microphone that you can plug into the mic input of your computer? 2) If not, have you got a stereo mini-jack lead that you can plug into the mic input of your computer (and leave the other end of the lead not plugged into anyt...
