Re: What equipment used for language learning?

Yes Audacity can use USB microphones, but USB microphones have a couple of limitations (that will probably not be important for your application). You can only use ONE USB microphone. Audacity can only access one recording device at a time. You cannot monitor to your own voice through your headphone...

Re: EQ on the fly

Real-time effects is the highest rated "feature request" http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Feature_Requests Feel free to register on the wiki and add your vote, or I could add your vote for you if you prefer. Personally I think that real-time EQ is so important that it should be treated as...

Re: Audacity stereo mix problems.

Before i posted this, i downloaded the newer one. Did the same thing to me. I didn't expect it to fix this problem, but it has many other benefits and fixes many other problems. Stick with Audacity 1.3.12 or we could be running into additional problems that will only confuse the issue. Also, which ...

Re: quality of loaded vs exported mp3 recording

Am I decoding the mp3 on opening, and then re-encoding? Yes. In order to be able to accomplish all of the complex mixing, editing and processing features it requires uncompressed audio data, so compressed audio formats are decoded when you import them. Exporting as MP3 will re-encode the audio data...

Re: Removing background voice from recording?

I've already tried Vocal Remover,...and splitting the tracks, inverting the right track, then setting both to mono -- this remove the audio entirely from my recording. That's because your recording is mono. Both of these methods require stereo, and work by removing audio that is panned centre - tha...

Re: Sound quality on recording from 8mm camera

You probably need to use a different sound card. Most laptop PCs have only a "microphone" input, which is expecting a really tiny signal from a microphone. Connecting a much larger signal from your camera (probably about 1000x larger than a microphone signal), the microphone input will be ...

Re: File won't open

There are two parts to an Audacity project. There is the Audacity Project file (.AUP) and there is the audio data that is used in the Project. The .AUP file does not contain any audio. The audio data may be contained in the project "_data" folder, or elsewhere on your computer. It is essen...

Re: How To Turn .au files into mp3??

See here for an explanation of what an Audacity project is http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Audacity_Projects (this is really important). I would highly recommend that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12, which you can get from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ Audacity requires Lame to be instal...
