Re: decibel clipping
For the problem on Linux, please post in the Linux part of the forum (I presume that you are using Audacity 1.3..x, so you will want this board: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewforum.php?f=18 ) For the Windows XP problem, open up the system mixer (a loudspeaker icon near the Desktop time/date). Go...

Re: Saving volume levels

Re: Does 1.3 do any of the things I don't like about 1.2.6?
It will not save an open file over itself (like most any other application will). Audacity does not operate directly on audio files, it works with "Projects". Information about file handling in Audacity can be found in the manual here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Audacity_Projects ...

Re: low volume level in MP3
Recordings that you make yourself are likely to be quieter than "commercial" recordings because of the fashion for compressing the life out of recordings to make them as loud as possible (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war ) The peak recording level in Audacity should be a...

Re: Sample Printer
Sample Printer is proving popular with [email protected] enquirers That's encouraging, and I find somewhat unexpected as there appear to be very few downloads from the forum. Unless you have a fix in progress for handling multiple tracks That was a problem at the time due to *scratch* not working correctly...

Re: Error 5 on installation
I would highly recommend that you install Audacity 1.3.12 http://audacityteam.org/download/
The 1.2.6 version is now ancient and has not been updated for years.
The default Temp location in Audacity 1.3.12 on Windows XP is
C:Documents and Settings<user>Local SettingsTempaudacity_temp

Re: Audio loopback problem
Stereo 3.5mm "mini-jack" sockets are by far the most common connector on laptop PCs and on desktop / tower computers they are by far the most common for on-board sound cards and other low-end sound cards. On higher quality sound cards (both internal and external) it is common for the conne...
