Probably not. However I prefer to use the "cable" type as they tend to put less strain on the computer socket.digiday wrote:'m wondering, is one or the other likely to produce less feedback or distortion

Re: Does 1.3 do any of the things I don't like about 1.2.6?
I presume that the metering was post input level, and if the input level is all the way down when not recording (as it should be) then the meter is effectively OFF.
How about other software? Anyone know of any software that has metering enabled on switch on?

Re: Sample Printer
You can export a file that has sample values without indices, but not one like that which also has the sample rate. Isn't that what samplprinter3.ny does if "Sample Values Only" is selected? I get the impression that HTML output is not generally very useful (though it suited the original ...

Re: Sample Printer
The problem I had in mind was if you select multiple tracks the plug-in writes a file for each track, but overwrites to the same file name. Could it not do like export multiple and add a suffix to the file name for subsequent files in the same process, while still overwriting the file if it already...

Re: Compressor effect
Increasing the attack and decay times will reduce the pumping, but will likely lead to unpleasant effects when the loud music starts after the talking - the compressor will take a fraction of a second to kick in, and you'll get a split-second of very loud, then not-so-loud. That was true with earli...

Re: Cutting up long tracks - a few simple questions
Are you saying I could export in flac and my 80 minute file would burn OK? I'm saying that you could convert to FLAC and burn as a data CD for the purpose of transferring to another computer. For creating a normal audio CD you will need to convert the FLAC file back to WAV (some CD burning software...

Re: Does 1.3 do any of the things I don't like about 1.2.6?
Where did you get the idea that hardware doesn't work that way? I've used machines from Revox, Akai, Sony, Tascam, Fostex, Nakamichi, Digidesign and others, and I don't remember any of them metering the input on switch-on. Most of them would have "playthrough" on automatically, but it is ...

You may need to change the file extension to .txt for the forum software to allow it. (Upload tab / button is below the message compose box)

Re: Cutting up long tracks - a few simple questions
How long can the audio be for a CD? I thought it could go up to 80 minutes. The maximum length of a pressed CD (red book standard) is 79.8 minutes. For CDRs (recordable CDs made on computers) the reliability generally drops off rapidly when you go much over an hour. There is some variation dependin...

Re: low volume level in MP3
If Audacity 1.2.6 is working OK for you, then you can of course continue using it, but you are missing out on many useful features that enhance music production. I use Audacity 1.3.12 daily on Windows XP - recording should not be a problem so I'd assume that there is just some setting that needs cha...
