Re: Strange recording sound
Like others user those who in Window 7 OS, I can only find "Master" available in Audacity. For my laptop that equip with Realtek High Definition Audio soundcard , there is no other options. Microsoft are making it increasingly difficult to record "Stereo Mix". You may need to en...

Re: poor sound
It may be worth looking in the Windows Control Panel to see if Windows is applying additional gain boost to the input and/or is set to mono (Windows often assumes that any USB audio input is a mono microphone).

Re: Win 7 crash.
UA-1G control panel? What's that? I've looked it up now but it seems that the "control panel" that I was thinking of is for the ASIO set-up, which Audacity does not use. However I did notice a comment in the "Cakewalk Audio Interface Setup" http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Interf...

Re: Miking a violin
Those measurements are around what I expected. Thanks for posting your results. Somewhere in the order of 200k is about average for instrument inputs on mixing desks (way too low for most piezo fiddle pick-ups). For directly connecting to a mixer, a series resistor can be used between the pick-up an...

but the manual has c. 150 pages There's a lot of features in Audacity. The manual aims to cover all of them. There is also a "Quick Start" section in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Quick_Guide and there are quite a few guides for specific tasks in the "Tut...

Re: MP3 Encoder download basics
I will have to repeat the exercise if I substitute 1.3.12 for the 1.2.6 So long as you installed the latest version of Lame according to the instructions on the Lame Installation page , the only step that you need to do for Audacity 1.3.12 is: Open Audacity, Edit menu > Preferences > Libraries Clic...

Re: Win 7 crash.
I was going to suggest that you enquired on the Creative forum, but I see that you already have. At what point does it crash? Is it a total black screen crash of Win 7? Do you have the UA-1G control panel correctly installed and working? Have you checked that the sample rates in the Windows Control ...

Re: Automating the optimal record level settings
0 dB is 0 dB. There is no additional headroom. If you click on the recording meter, the meter is activated so that you can set the level before you start recording. By default the recording and playback meters are very small, but you can click and drag them to full screen width, which makes them muc...

I don't think that it is a very important issue, but I've notified the administrator about it.

Re: how to import WAV file
Unfortunately Microsoft keep bringing out different versions of WMA, and FFmpeg does not yet support all versions. If FFmpeg cannot convert the file you will need to use a third party format converter to convert them to a supported format (I would recommend converting to WAV) before importing into A...
