Re: Paste disabled-can't get working

If you are really using Audacity 1.2.x I would highly recommend that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 http://audacityteam.org/download/

Most functions are only available when Audacity is stopped. If you are in Play, Record or Pause then most functions are disabled.

May be easiest if you say what you think "perfect loop points" means then replies can either confirm, or add detail to your description.

Re: Removing background noise

It's not physically possible to isolate a single frequency as that would require an infinitely steep filter. The closest that you can do is to use a narrow "band-pass filter". I'm not sure if there is a ready made plug-in to do this, but it is quite simple to produce a reasonably narrow ba...

Re: Weird Sound Output

In Audacity 1.2.6 the Playback device is "Microsoft Sound Mapper - Output", recording device is "Microsoft Sound Mapper - Output" I presume you mean " recording device is "Microsoft Sound Mapper - Input " ? Is "Channels" set to "1 (mono)" or &q...

Re: XP reboots when starting Audacity

there is a folder called audacity. It is empty apart from another folder called "presets" which is itself empty (I have checked and I am showing hidden files and folders). That's OK. The audacity.cfg file is created after the first run of Audacity 1.3.12. If Audacity 1.3.x has never succe...

Re: how to create static build with audacity 1.2.6?

The reason I was trying to use Audacity 1.2.6 is that Audacity 1.3.12 in the Ubuntu repositories has been extremely unstable on my hardware, frequently crashing, and possibly causing the desktop to freeze. I should point out that my hardware is terrible Audacity is a bit like the miner's canary. I'...

Re: XP reboots when starting Audacity

Have a look in the folder: Documents and Settings<user name>Application DataAudacity (it's a hidden folder) Is there a file in there called "audacity.cfg" If there is, open it in Notepad and delete everything except for the line: NewPrefsInitialized=1 Save the file (without changing the fi...

Re: LAME error message help

Thanks for the follow-up JP. I've moved the topic to the 1.3 part of the forum. I think that Variable Bit Rate #2 (170K to 210K) should give the same results as "Preset: Standard", and the result with stereo music should be very reasonable (a lot better than many MP3s available on the Inte...

That's good.
What are the available options in Audacity:
"Edit menu > Preferences > Devices" for the Playback Device?

Re: Can LAME MP3 encoder work with Media Player 12?

Audacity does not rip CDs.
Both C-Dex and Foobar 2000 (both free) are able to rip CDs to MP3.
If you are wanting to edit the files that you have ripped it is better to rip to WAV so as to avoid the sound quality loss of encoding to MP3 twice.
