Re: waveforms lopped off at top - audio distorted

If he doesn't know Audacity, he should know the Windows "Sound Recorder" program. Audacity can use the same sound services as are used by Sound Recorder, so if your guy can get Sound Recorder to record and play back correctly, then we should be able to tell you how to get Audacity 1.3.12 w...

Re: One speaker's volume needs dampening

What sort of "conference call" are you talking about? Skype? Voip?
How have you recorded it? Are all (how many) voices mixed together on the same track or is each voice on its own audio track?

There's an old saying:

Re: Trouble with opening file, etc.

Please post in the part of the forum that is appropriate for your version of Audacity. In this case I'll leave the topic here in the Audacity 1.3.x section, because that is the version that you should be using. You can get Audacity 1.3.12 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ Audacity does no...

Re: Help for a beginner

I'm learning, but I don't like cluttering up my PC with unnecessary files, so I'm likely to get caught by this repeatedly! The way that I avoid getting caught out by this is to create a folder before I start the project, then keep all files that are related to the project in that folder. If I'm imp...

With the envelope tool (see link in first reply) you can create a smooth transition so as to avoid sudden jumps.

Re: Audacity for Mac recongnizing my Audacity PC files

Just for fun, how does Audacity deal with the AUP file characteristics and external sound files between platforms? It doesn't handle it. You need to resolve dependencies before transferring the project. With Audacity 1.3.12, "File menu > Check Dependencies" When the project is self contai...

Re: Random skipping when recording

That looks completely normal.
Do you know how to find the default recording sample rate setting in the Windows Control Panel?
That should usually be set to 44100 Hz 16-bit CD quality.
(a sample rate mismatch can sometimes cause a huge drop in performance).

Re: GRAVELY disappointed with Audicity !!!!!!!!!

Audacity is not connected with SUPER in any way. However, I have used SUPER for years, and still use it. SUPER is definitely a "quirky" application, but it is also one of the most comprehensive media format conversion tools available for Windows, and probably the most comprehensive FREE co...

Re: ipod does not recognise track numbers exported from 1.3.

As an experiment, could you try exporting some tracks from Audacity as WAV files, then use iTunes to convert them to AIFF. Do you still get the problem?
