Zoom in close on the "distorted" second track - are there bits missing from it?

I've got a number of computers that I use with Audacity, ranging from 500 MHz 600 MB RAM Desktop PC up to Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5800 (2GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB Cache) 3GB RAM Notebook PC.

As has been said, Audacity can only record from one "device" at a time, however it should be able to handle as many audio channels as that device has available.
The 16 channel limit was removed quite recently.

I'm at a distinct disadvantage here as I don't use Windows 7. I'll see if I can find a knowledgeable Windows 7 user to come and have a look.....

1) Upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12.
2) Open Audacity and import both files (into the same project).
3) No need to put the clips into the same track - Audacity is a multi-track editor, designed to work with multiple tracks at the same time.

Audacity can only record from one device at a time. If you have multiple instances of Audacity open only one of them can record at one time.

What sort of microphone? A USB microphone?
