In Audacity 1.3.x it's "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices"

Check in the Windows Control Panel that there is at least one recording device enabled (preferably the one that you want to use)

I don't think there is an "easy solution" after the event. The "easy solution" before the event is to use equipment that supports time code and to synchronise all of the equipment to the same time code clock - that's what time code was invented for.
