Re: Mix and Render -> clipping
I presume that you're not recording full scale sine tones, but are recording real instruments and voices, in which case the first few tracks will probably not distort (much) when they are mixed together even if you do nothing. At any convenient stage during the recording process you can adjust the m...

Re: monitoring LP when recording in vista
In that case you just set your sound card to play sound from the line input.
Exactly how to do that will depend on your sound card, but a good place to start looking would be to open up the sound card properties in the Windows Control Panel.

Re: a script to attenuate peaks?
"Apple: AUPeakLimiter" If you check the time scale on the screen shot it's about 15 seconds per centimetre, so those "spikes" are not as transient as they first appear. There is a 5 second audio sample a few posts back that contains one of those peaks, and the peaks are not very...

Re: Removing Clipping
Reducing the level won't change the shape of the waveform. That's true, but for some lossy compression audio formats (notably MP3) it is not uncommon for peaks to exceed 0 dB, and if the file is decoded to 32-bit float, then those peaks can still exist - not truncated, but extending beyond 0 dB. In...

Re: Recovering from a crash, temp files empty
My best guess is that it's gone an lost forever.
Automatic crash recovery is pretty good in Audacity 1.3.12, but power failure can be devastating. If automatic crash recovery does not work, then recovery is probably not possible.
