Re: Tape saturation simulator

I've only had a brief look, but it looks promising.
I notice that sometimes the effect will introduce a bit of DC offset, and wonder if it might be better to have the high-pass filter at the end of the signal chain rather than at the beginning.

Re: Elliptical Equalizer (mono crossfeed filter)

Looks good.

On the interface, should it say "Monomix Amount" or "Mono Mix Amount" (or another alternative)?

Re: Reducing Size of Output File

The tools are somewhat limited in Audacity 1.2.x, but you can still increase the data compression (this is not the same as the "compression effect" - that's "dynamic compression). Go to "Edit menu > Preferences > File Formats" Change the MP3 Export "Bit Rate" to a ...

No.
Which version of Audacity are you using? (Look in the Help menu > About Audacity)

Re: heavy clipping distortion on 24-bit export

Hot keys would be nice, but it does not solve the problem of scrolling through 200+ effects to try and find that particular reverb effect that you used last month. Much easier to just look in the "Reverbs" section of the Effects menu. 200+ effects  24 built-in effects, Filters - low...

Re: Mix and Render -> clipping

With reasonable recording levels (does not need to push hugely close to 0 dB) very professional sounding results can be achieved with 16-bit recording. A peak recording level of -10 dB still puts the digital noise floor 86 dB below the peak level, which is very good, and (subjectively) much better t...

Re: Reducing Size of Output File

Various options:
Make the file shorter,
use a higher compression ratio,
If the file is stereo, make it mono,
Reduce the bit-depth.

Re: Peak finder

A Nyquist "sound" object is a pointer to a linked list of administration data, which in turn point to "blocks" of sound samples, which are read only if really necessary (lazy evaluation = delay computation until really needed). Ah ha, that explains some other "unexpected&qu...

Re: Adding more behaviour preferences to 3 features

what does those numbers represent? That represents the numerical value of the samples in 32-bit float format. A waveform with a range of +/- 1 is 0 dB. A waveform with a range +/- 0.5 is about -6 dB A waveform with a range +/- 0.25 is about -12 dB A horizontal line (usually at zero) is -infinity dB...

Re: Win 7 64 Bit

my impression is that if your small team were to have more time to devote to fixing the problem on a more general scale than user by user, we all might sooner benefit by having available an Audacity version that works seamlessly with Windows 7, whether those platforms be in 32- or 64-bit varieties....
