Re: Compiling audacity with FLAC < 1.1.3
I'm not sure, but I think that you may be hitting a bug in "on demand" loading of Flac files, but this is an experimental feature that does not work yet and should not be enabled. I would recommend that you try the current 1.3.13 code which is available from SVN http://audacityteam.org/com...

Re: USB Connection
USB audio devices must be connected to the computer and recognised by the operating system before you start Audacity.

Re: Can / Will Audacity 1.2.x run in Windows 7.
Will 1.2.x run properly Not really. On some Win 7 machines it may run well enough to be usable, but there are known problems. There's also been many problems with 1.2.6 on Vista and Win 7 that have been reported here on the forum, but no-one follows them up because Audacity 1.2.x is no longer devel...

Re: Problem Installing "PNG" Effects Plugin in Audacity Beta
The Ogg and WAV "sound effects" from Freesound.org are not plug-ins, they are audio files (recordings). You just need to download those files to your computer then Import them into Audacity to use them (File menu > Import).

Re: Problem Installing "PNG" Effects Plugin in Audacity Beta
Freesound.org is a good resource for sounds.
As an example, try searching their site for "DJ scratch" and you'll get about 150 samples.

Re: Quick Question concerning track length
Alternatively you can single click on the track, then press the END key to take the track playback cursor to the end of the track. The time position will be displayed at the bottom of the Audacity window.
Alternatively, click on the >> button.

What are you recording and how are you recording it?
What operating system are you using and which version of Audacity?

Re: Categorizing Effects - Again
I've trimmed down the number of effects that I have installed to the bare minimum of those that I regularly need. I find that this makes the situation bearable, but I've added my vote to bringing back categories and look forward to it being re-implemented.

Re: ACER RECORDING
Go into the sound card settings (either in the Windows Control Panel, or via an icon near the time/date in the lower right of the Desktop) and turn off all effects and enhancements. I've also got an Acer laptop, and even with the "enhancements" turned off the recording quality is still rub...
