Audacity 1.3 includes quite a few effects as standard, so have a go with those first and see what they all do...

I'd recommend upgrading to Audacity 1.3 http://audacityteam.org/download/

Go into the audio device settings (Audacity 1.3 "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices". Audacity 1.2 "Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O")
