Re: How Do I improve the quality?

For best quality, use 44.1 kHz and also, check that the Sony is set to record in HQ mode. Interestingly the "marketing specification" for this model says that the HQ setting has a frequency range up to 16 kHz, but the User manual says that the HQ setting has a frequency range up to only 6....

Re: I found out how to record Skype or VoIP

assuming it's got the same basic capabilities of Sonar, Cubase or even Soundforge, It hasn't. Sonar, Cubase and Soundforge can use ASIO drivers which add a lot more functionality than the standard Windows drivers. Unfortunately Audacity cannot be shipped with ASIO support due to licensing restricti...

Re: Just wont record

1 hour at 44.1 kHz sample rate, 16-bit mono, will require about 320 MB. 1 hour at 44.1 kHz sample rate, 32-bit float mono, will require about 640 MB. (default) If the recording is stereo it will be double (~1.3 GB). You will also need additional space for "Undo" files if you edit the recor...

Re: Bad MP3 Output

MP3 is a "lossy" format. To make the file smaller, MP3 encoding throws some data away, then squashes the remaining data together. This makes the file smaller, but the data that is thrown away can never be recovered, so the sound quality deteriorates. If it deteriorates too much, then it wi...

That's bizarre. Audacity 1.2.6 does not support video files. Are you sure that the files really are .avi format and not some other format with the wrong extension?
