Re: Beep-Beep noise in recordings
It could be that the recording is picking up interference from somewhere. What sort of computer is it, what are you recording? If it's a laptop computer, try running it on battery while you record - laptop power supplies frequently cause interference. If possible, try moving the computer to a differ...

Re: DC offset in Audacity?
We receive an 8k .wav that we encode into a 32k .vox. We give this to a hosting company that converts it to g.711. They are getting quality issues that are similar to what happens when we open up the .vox in Audacity 1.3.12. I've tried a couple of other programs to decode the .vox file and I'm gett...

Yes please do.johnalex13 wrote: The files are very small 30 seconds data size of 192kb. Would it be helpful if I posted one here?
If the forum software will not accept the .VOX extension you could try adding ".wav" onto the end of the file name. (filename.vox.wav)

Re: Noise Reduction Trick -- UNDO
to amplify the profile into clipping by accident There's no chance of that happening. Worst case scenario: The original noise sample is 0 dBFS (OK, so there's no show, but let's go with the figures for a moment) Push the Sensitivity slider up to maximum - the profile may now peak at +20 dB (this is...

Re: DC offset in Audacity?
.VOX files can be tricky. It's also a very old (obsolete) format that is rarely used these days, but I presume that you got the files from some old system? What are the files, and roughly how big are they?

Re: MP3 file too big to send
That is pretty huge. How long is the file? You are "Exporting" from Audacity and selecting "MP3" as the Export format in the Export dialogue screen?RobinEagle wrote:Now the files are huge (696 MB)

Re: MP3 file too big to send
The default compression setting, 128, usually results in a very good stereo show with modest filesizes and very little sound damage. Yes, modest file size, but for stereo music the damage is pretty obvious if you listen on decent equipment (particularly noticeable as "swishy" sounds on cy...

Re: MP3 file too big to send
Click on the "Options" button on the Export dialogue screen. Exporting MP3s is always a trade-off between sound quality and file size. The default in 1.2.6 was "128kbps CBR", which is generally considered to be the minimum for reasonable quality stereo music. (The "Presets&q...

Re: Noise Reduction Trick -- UNDO
I'm remembering from the dark recesses of my head that Cool Edit had controls on the Profile Capture step. I need to look. The "Sensitivity" slider in the new Audacity version of Noise Removal is similar to moving the yellow line up/down on the graph in Cool Edit Pro. My vote was for the ...
