Re: no recording device (I have device enabled already)
The setting I'm looking for isn't there. What we're looking for is something like "Allow Reconfiguration Pop-Ups" Go to control panel and see if there is a Sigmatel Audio icon. If there is, look there for an option to allow (Re-)Configuration Pop-Ups. If you find it, please let us know exa...

Re: Ringtone volume
There's no hard and fast rules. You could use just the soft clipping limiter and not the Compressor, or you could use both. If you use both you will probably get best results by applying the compressor first, but then use a lower threshold setting in the Soft Clipping Limiter. Try these settings: Co...

Re: Export creates 0 KB file
Audacity does not appear to currently support export to AAC at 8kHz. If you set the "Project Rate" (lower left corner of the main Audacity window) to 44100 before you export, then it should export. Why do you need these files in .M4R format? Is it OK if the sample rate is changed to 44.1 k...

Re: Guitar Amp to Computer Hum
The UCA 202 has a pair of line inputs and a pair of line outputs, so you can use it for playback. You are likely to get less noise from the power supply when playing back via the UCA 202, but you will probably still get some noise. The problem is that PC laptop power supplies are very inexpensive, a...

Re: Doing some complicated home recording
Trade it in? The only option I see in the instructions is to install 4GB of memory. Is your machine full -- does it have all its memory? That can make a big difference to speed. It's not that you can't force this machine to work, but if its your only computer, you're going to have to turn off and s...

Try this Soft Clipping Limiter effect.
Right click on link and select "Save As" (or whatever the option is in your web browser).

Re: Ringtone volume
I used the Compressor. Use it more :) Try these settings - they may be too extreme, but then you can "Undo" (Ctrl+Z) and find a happy compromise. First, use the "Amplify" effect with default settings, then use the Compressor with: Threshold: -24 dB Noise Floor: -40 Ratio: 10:1 (...

Re: My volumes fades as I record long, sustained notes. HELP
It's a sound card setting. Go into your sound card settings and disable all effects and enhancements - search thoroughly, some of them may be well hidden. The main culprit may be called something like "Noise Reduction" or "Echo Cancellation", but turn off all effects and enhancem...

Re: Only first track records well
It's good to hear that you can keep a sense of humour about it :D The problem is often referred to as "skipping", and is caused by some part of your system being unable to keep up with the audio data. For skip free recording, the audio data has to get from the sound card to the hard drive ...

Re: Using noise reduction to reduce hum in beta
The manual has most of the information http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Noise_Removal It does not yet say anything about the new "Sensitivity" slider (this feature is very new). Normally you would leave the Sensitivity slider at zero, but after you have tweaked the other controls for bes...
