Re: Couple of questions with getting started on Audacity

Topic moved to the Audacity 1.3 section. Recording sounds that are playing on your computer can sometimes be tricky on Windows 7. The "standard" way to record sounds playing on the computer is to set the sound card to record from "Stereo Mix" as described here: http://wiki.audaci...

Re: how to convert music file in Audicity to .wma files

You can also use MP3 audio files with Picasa Movie Maker. ( http://picasa.google.com/support/bin/an ... swer=19496 )

To export audio in MP3 format from Audacity you need to install "Lame" http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=install&i=lame-mp3

That's highly unusual.
What is the make/model of the cassette player?
Do you normally have the cassette player plugged into an amplifier? If so, does that have a variable output that you could use?

Re: locating "change_pitch".ny

"Change Pitch" is not a Nyquist effect. I think it's written in C+.

The code for the built in effects for the current version of Audacity is here: http://code.google.com/p/audacity/sourc ... %2Feffects

Re: Splitting Recording into Separate Tracks

When you mark the track with labels and then "Export Multiple" it will create multiple files, one for each marker. Is that happening? Is that not what you want?

What form are these recording in? Are they stereo WAV files?

Re: Recording levels way too low

Are you absolutely certain that Audacity is recording from "Stereo Mix" and not from another source (such as an internal microphone)?

Re: Applying effects taking forever!

Running short of RAM will have an enormous affect on processing time.
Use the Task Manager to check that there is free RAM (real memory, not virtual memory). If the computer runs short of RAM it will start swapping data between RAM and the hard drive and the processing will take an age to complete.
