Re: Accurately Visualizing Frequency (Pitch) Over Time

Really quick reply because it's late here:
Edit menu > Preferences > Spectrograms
Increase the Window Size to about 1024
Show spectrum in greyscale (less colourful but easier to interpret)
Make a note (on paper) of other settings and experiment.

Re: External hardware for recording

the general response is "Don't use the on-board HDD!" That's not strictly accurate. The advice should be "Don't use the internal system drive". In the case of ProTools, it is common for performance to be totally hopeless unless a second internal (or fast external) hard drive is ...

Re: Accurately Visualizing Frequency (Pitch) Over Time

Is there any reason why a plug-in couldn't be written for Audacity that could do what I want, or is Audacity really a horrible fit for what I'm wanting to do? There is a bit more that you can do with Audacity, (such as the "Spectrum" and "Spectrum log (f)" views that can be sele...

Re: Accurately Visualizing Frequency (Pitch) Over Time

Re. voice frequencies. An interesting experiment is to use a "low pass filter" set to 120 Hz and 48 dB per octave on a voice recording.
You should clearly hear the lowest tones of a deep male voice, but trying to guess what they are saying will be amusing.

Re: External hardware for recording

In most cases an internal drive will be faster than an external drive. External drives are great for storing your exported recordings when you have finished, but it is generally better to record onto an internal drive. A common practice is to have two internal drives - one for the operating system a...

Re: audacity alpha freezes

Improvements seen in the alpha version should come through to the next beta release version. Keep an eye on the Audacity download page or sign up at the bottom of this page to be notified when 1.3.14 is released.

The only difference between those two leads is the length. One is 2m and the other is 6m.

Re: Question re. adding effect to Chain

You mean something like this: Yes, that's exactly the sort of thing. Can you write me a tiny Nyquist effect which has no GUI and no params This is the most simple full plug-in that I could think of. It scales the amplitude of the selection by 0.5 (half amplitude). Save this as a text file with a fi...

Re: burn audio cd from utube

Audacity does not burn CDs. The best way to burn YouTube audio to CD is to download the video using one of the many free YouTube download add-ons for Firefox . You can then either use a standalone format converter (such as the free program "SUPER" by erightsoft) to convert the video file t...
