Re: recovering files

Crash recovery in Audacity 1.2.x is tricky and somewhat unpredictable. There's a help page on the subject here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=CrashRecovery I would highly recommend that for future use you use Audacity 1.3.13 as this has automatic recovery which can usually recover fro...

Re: making a surround 5.1 file

Yes you can, but you need Audacity 1.3.13 and you need to know the correct channel mapping for the 5.1 format that you intend to use.

Re: Recording PC Audio along with Mic Audio

I have an idea - why don't you post a reasonable amount of information about your system, the hardware and software, and details about the problem, then we may not need to ask so many "dumb questions".

Re: Clipping/distorted recording

The USB interface should be fine for recording a stereo mix. (I regularly use a similar set-up). my laptop is pretty crammed with stuff that i dont need and thats what could be slowing me down, Hmm yes, it could. How much free disk space do you have? Have you defragmented your hard drive lately (or ...

Re: Splitting one long recording into several shorter files.

You've posted in the Audacity 1.2 part of the forum. Are you really using that version?
Look in the Audacity Help menu > About Audacity. What version does it say?

Re: Clipping/distorted recording

It's most probably a USB problem. Data is being dropped because for some reason the system is not able to keep up with the required continuous data transfer. Do you have any other USB devices connected? Is the mixer connected directly to the computer (not through a USB hub)? Try connecting to a diff...

Re: nyquist broken

I don't know why this should happen - this is the first reported case of this problem on the forum, but there was one similar case (also on Mac OSX) with Audacity 1.3.12, though that was a the function (db-to-linear) that was reported to undefined. It would be good to get to the bottom of this issue...

Re: Synchronizing sound recorded at different locations

I can also use the time shift function to adjust the tracks, and I wounder if it is exact enough. That's how I would do it. When recording on different machines, you may find that the synchronization gradually drifts out. If that happens, split one of the tracks (Edit menu) and if necessary delete ...

Re: Clipping/distorted recording

Could you post a short sample of the problem (just a couple of seconds in WAV format). To make a short WAV file from a recording, select the appropriate part of the audio track, then from the File menu select "Export Selection". Short WAV files can be uploaded to the forum as an "atta...

It's a long shot, but check that "Software Playthrough" is not selected (near the bottom of the Transport menu).
