Re: 1.3.13 isolate in noise removal

Can anyone explain exactly what it does and the procedure for using it? Normally you wouldn't use it, but as it says in the manual (link in waxcylinders post) it allows you to hear exactly what the Noise Removal effect is removing. With a bit of creative application it could perhaps be used to opti...

Re: Recording from Voice Recorder

You can probably record the headphone output from the voice recorder using a suitable lead (stereo mini-jack) to connect it to a Line input on your computer. If your computer is a laptop PC you probably won't have a Line-level input, in which case you would need to use the microphone input which is ...

Re: Recording from a Digital Piano

I'll leave the Mac specific stuff to Koz as I know nothing about Macs. You write that you can "play back the edited file with exactly the same beautiful sound quality as the original performance," but I'm not sure how to read that. MIDI files sound pretty electronic, I mean, you know they'...

Re: Play button messed up or something..(with screenshot)

PulseAudio may have crashed. I don't know why this should happen, but it occasionally happens to me if I click too rapidly on Play. PulseAudio recovers automatically, but this is too late for Audacity as Audacity is waiting for a connection that's no longer there. You may be able to recover from thi...

Re: hooking up shurepg81 to audacity using fast track int

Ensure that you have the latest version of Audacity 1.3 (currently 1.3.13). The M-Audio fast track interface must be connected to the computer, powered up and recognised by Windows before you launch Audacity. Open Audacity and in "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices" ensure that the USB opti...

Re: Audacity keeps freezing when recording

Which one? Look in "Help menu > About Audacity". The range is from 1.3.1 to 1.3.13 and may be ANSI or Unicode. Unicode Good. Now pick a number between 1 and 13 :) The current version is 1.3.13, so that's the one that you should be using. I use Stereo Mix to record as microphone doesn't wo...

Re: Recording from a Digital Piano

I'll go and buy an M/M cable from eBay, or if I see it in a shop, and try it out on the Macbook and then just transfer it over, like you say. The first thing to check is that the Macbook does have a stereo line-level input (most of them do). If you don't have the user manual, try looking for the ex...

Re: dubing over

The flip side to Koz's reply: Yes you can do that with Audacity but you need appropriate equipment. Audacity 1.3.13 would be recommended.

Re: Comparing Two Audio Streams for Percent Match

The task you are describing is EXTREMELY complex.
See here for some relevant tools: http://www.fon.hum.uva.nl/praat/
(this may also provide an idea of just how complex the task is).

How are you doing that? An ION USB turntable?
