96 kHz 32-bit float format, (but most chips are designed for 44.1 / 48 kHz 16 bit integer, unless you are intending to build it from discrete components).

Re: Recording Problems using Griffin iMic and Audacity
But this 1/4in to 1/8in adapter was never a problem when recording into the dictaphone? The dictaphone will have a mono input, whereas the the iMic has a stereo input. These two devices have the input socket wired up differently. The SM-58 is designed to be plugged into a 3 pin XLR socket . It may ...

Open Audacity and in "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices". Ensure that the "Playback" device is set to the sound card that you are using for playback.

Re: Recording Problem
It may be a good idea to also run a thorough malware (anti-virus / anti-spyware / ...) scan also. Someone has gone to some trouble to create that fake.Gale Andrews wrote: Go to the Windows Control Panel and uninstall all the versions of "Audacity" that are listed.

Re: Recording Problem
That is not Audacity. You have installed some other program.
If you are using Windows 2000 or XP or Vista or Windows 7, then download "Audacity 1.3.13 installer (.exe file, 13.8 MB)" from this page: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows

Re: Can Audacity produce uncorrelated signals?
Yes Audacity (1.3.13) can. Open Audacity then "Tracks menu > Add New > Stereo track" Then "Generate menu > Noise". Select the type of noise (for example "Pink") and the required amplitude (for example 0.8) and the required duration, then click the "OK" button.

Re: Before I buy a new laptop, let me ask you...
My question: What do I need to buy, for my new computer, so that I can plug the Radio Shack microphone into the round socket on the side of my laptop, without noise? You need a laptop that has a good quality microphone input. The next question is: "which laptops have good quality microphone in...

Probably yes.rpmathis wrote:Is this due to my cheap stock sound card?
Set it to the average value.
Unfortunately some cheap sound cards can drift quite badly, though for short recordings it may not be noticeable when you listen back.

Re: Remove Q setting from high-pass / low-pass filters
Here's the full High/Low/Band filter without all the extra text in the ;info line:
(If this was included with Audacity, then the extra ;info text would probably not be necessary as it would be in the manual for anyone that could not work it out themselves).
