Re: Question about Amplify
If you could attach a short sample (just a few seconds in WAV format) then perhaps I could suggest some settings.
I'd definitely recommend that you use Audacity 1.3.13 as the built-in compressor effect is much better than the compressor effect in 1.2.6.

Could you upload an example recording - preferably fairly short and in Flac format - somewhere on the Internet (such as a file sharing site) then post a link so that we can download and examine it.

Re: Recording Wave Out Mix and mic input at the same time
Skype is a special case when it comes to recording. In order to record both your microphone and the other person, you would need to set your microphone to play through your headphones and set Audacity to record "stereo Mix". However, if you do that then Skype does not work. Skype blocks pl...

Re: Question about Amplify
Yes you can do that, but it will probably sound terrible.
You would need to apply an extreme amount of "dynamic compression".

Re: Audacity K.O. after installing Rosegarden/ Qjackctl / Qs
If Jack is running, then you will need to set Audacity to use Jack. "File menu > Preferences > Devices" Set Host to "Jack" and set the Recording and Playback devices to "System". Jack support is a bit flaky in Audacity 1.3.12 (which I'm guessing is the version you have)...

Re: find overlap of tracks and align them
Not at present, though a couple of the developers have been looking at a similar idea: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Proposal_Audio_Difflynx wrote:Is there such a function in audacity?
Audacity is in "feature freeze" so there will be no new features until after Audacity 2.0 has been released.
