Re: recording vinyl tot my computer
You have posted in the Audacity 1.2.x part of the forum. Which version of Audacity are you using? (look in "Help > About Audacity")
Which Linux distro are you using?
If you open AlsaMixer and press "F6", what options are there?

Re: recording using a microphone
Your question is not about "Improving this Forum" (the title of this forum board). I'll move it to the Audacity 1.2.x for Windows section for now, but I would recommend that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.13 which you can get here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ Which version of Windows ar...

Re: Removing vocals without removing all audio
when I follow the 'split track', 'invert' process everything is removed, including instrument. That happens when both left and right channels are identical - in other words it is a mono recording. Vocal removal requires a stereo recording with the vocal in the centre and the instruments off-centre....

Re: Playback delay while recording?
I'm not going to do the termviewer thing, but if you describe your set-up, including what equipment you are using, how it is connected together, and details about your settings and exactly what you are doing, then I'll try to help. Don't forget to quote your Windows version and exact Audacity versio...

Re: Noise removal chain: Nyquist error
I've tried reproducing your steps and I'm not getting a Nyquist window. However, I'm having to guess a bit at step 4.
When I click "File > Edit Chain > Add" I am prompted to enter a name.

Re: No Sound Input Detected...
It is common on Vista for on-board sound cards to have their own control panel (near the Time/Date). If yours does, then try using the sound card control panel to set the default recording input, then restart Audacity and in "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices" set the record input to the l...

Re: Manual cueing?
You can't do "scrubbing" or "rocking to and fro", but you can make a selection (click and drag along the track) then play just that marked section by pressing the spacebar. If you click on either end of the selection, the cursor will turn into an arrow and you can adjust the star...
